Elgin Symphony Orchestra announces free Listeners Club events
ESO musicians to discuss the composers and music to be presented at the ESO's January and February concerts

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra invites the public to two free, educational discussions about the composers and music featured in its upcoming concerts.
On Wednesday, Jan. 5, at noon ESO flutist Scott Metlicka will discuss Wagner’s “Flying Dutchman WW63,” Clara Schumann’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor,” and Brahm’s “Symphony No. 2 in D Major” at the Gail Borden Library Meadows Community Room. The three pieces will be performed by the ESO, featuring guest conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya and pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati, on Jan. 8 and 9, at the Hemmens Cultural Center. The February Listeners Club will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Gail Borden Library. ESO violinist Carol Dylan will discuss the music to be performed at the ESO’s Feb. 5 and 6 “Beethoven’s Eroica” concerts at the Hemmens Cultural Center, which will be conducted by Ankush Kumar Bahl and will feature rising star violinist Randall Goosby. Included in the discussion will be Montgomery’s “Starburst,” Mendelssohn’s “Concerto for Violin in E Minor,” and Beethoven’s “Eroica.” Registration for this Listeners Club program can be made at http://attend.gailborden.info/event/5713903.

Tickets for ESO concerts can be purchased at the ESO Box Office, 20 DuPage Ct., Elgin, or by phone at 847-888-4000, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased online at ElginSymphony.org. Masks and proof of complete Covid-19 vaccination are required for all attendees. Discounts are available for youth tickets, and those who subscribe to three or more Elgin Symphony Orchestra performances at the Hemmens Cultural Center between January and May 2022 will receive $5 off each adult ticket price. In addition to “Brahms Symphony No. 2” on Jan. 8 and 9, and ”Beethoven’s Eroica” on Feb. 5 and 6, upcoming spring performances eligible for the subscriber discount include Sgt. Pepper on Feb. 19 and 20; Mozart Requiem on March 5 and 6; Old American Songs on April 2 and 3; and Mariachi! on April 30 and May 1.
