Elgin Symphony Orchestra offers free Listeners Club discussion Jan. 4

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra invites the public to a free, educational discussion about the composers and music featured in its January concerts.

Scott Metlicka, flutist with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, will speak about Brahms’ Violin Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, and Jocelyn Morlock’s Oiseaux bleus et sauvages. The Listeners Club discussions will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, and on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at noon, at the Gail Borden Library in Elgin.

ESO January 7 and 8 concerts

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will perform these works on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin, Illinois. Violinist Stella Chen and guest conductor Andrew Crust, who is a finalist for the ESO’s music director search, will be featured. To purchase concert tickets, visit www.elginsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased by phone from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling the ESO box office at 847-888-4000. Tickets start at $20. Student tickets are $10, and youth age 17 and under are free with an accompanying adult.
