Elgin Symphony Orchestra performs works of Beethoven and Schumann
August 6 performance is finale for ESO Maestro Andrew Grams
In four short notes, Ludwig van Beethoven opened his fifth symphony and changed classical music forever. On Friday, Aug. 6, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra will take audience members on a journey from impenetrable darkness to blazing light as the ESO performs Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Robert Schumann’s virtuosic, yet poignantly sensitive, Symphony No. 2. The 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. concerts at The Venue at Goebbert’s in Pingree Grove close the season for the ESO’s Fridays On The Farm performance series.
It is also the finale performance for Maestro Andrew Grams as the ESO’s music director, a position he has held since 2013. A protégé of Franz Welser-Möst, Grams has conducted orchestras around the world. Grams was named Conductor of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras in 2015.
