Elgin's Colonial Cafe Closes
The restaurant along Northwest Highway closed abruptly on Monday.

ELGIN, IL -- After 40 years in business, the Colonial Cafe in Elgin closed abruptly on Monday. Meanwhile, the Colonial Cafe in Crystal Lake, which has been open for 33 years, has closed as well. Other restaurant locations in Algonquin, St. Charles, Naperville and Aurora remain open.
The Elgin location at 5689 McClean Boulevard was the company's "slowest" restaurant, board chairman Tom Anderson told the Daily Herald. Even though the restaurant spent decades in the community, it was "basically bypassed by Randall Road," Anderson said.
The Crystal Lake location has been listed for sale for a few month and there "has been a little bit of interest," Anderson told the newspaper. He said all employees at the shuttered locations had been offered positions at other restaurants.
