Ex-Volleyball Coach Charged With Sexual Assault Of Minor

The alleged assault took place between 1999 and 2001, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A former suburban volleyball coach faces charges for allegations he sexually assaulted a minor he coached nearly 25 years ago, prosecutors said Thursday.

Arthur D. Weathers, of Elburn, has been charged with 11 counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and 14 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony. The charges stem from allegations that Weathers sexually abused a minor he coached between 1999 and 2001, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Weathers was a coach with the First Kill volleyball club based in Elgin and served as both an assistant coach and head coach between 1999 and 2003, according to the news release. Prosecutors allege the victim was 16 years old when the abuse began.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office began investigating the allegations in August 2025 after the victim reported the abuse to law enforcement, according to the news release. According to investigators, Weathers has worked for the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services since 1998 as a forensic chemist.

Weathers was arrested May 19 and taken into custody by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and has been granted pre-trial release. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on July 15 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
