Fire Damages Elgin Home
The blaze happened Thursday morning on Hillcrest Drive in Elgin.

ELGIN, IL -- Elgin fire crews were able to quickly respond and put out a fire Thursday morning at a house on Hillcrest Road. Fire officials credited working smoke detectors in helping minimize the fire damage at the home, which was estimated to be about $11,000, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department. At 10:37 a.m. this morning, the Elgin Fire Department was notified of an activated smoke detector alarm in the home on the 900 block of Hillcrest Rd by an offsite alarm monitoring company.
The first Elgin Fire Department engine company arrived on the scene in just over 5 minutes.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and completed a search ensuring no occupants were home.
No injuries were reported.
Elgin Fire Chief Dave Schmidt said the blaze demonstrates the importance of working smoke detectors. In this case, the occupants alarm company was notified by activated smoke detectors. This rapid notification
resulted in minimal fire damage to the home, he said.
