Firefighters Rescue Dog From House Fire
An Elgin home is uninhabitable following the Monday night blaze.

ELGIN, IL – Firefighters rescued a dog that was inside his cage in an Elgin home after a blaze broke out Monday night, fire officials said. The Elgin Fire Department was initially called to the home at 11:31 p.m. for a report of an explosion and home on fire in the 500 block of Miller Drive. Fire officials said the explosion came from the tire of the car that was on fire in the driveway, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department.
The blaze spread to the outside of the home and fire crews were sent inside the home to rescue a dog in a cage on the first floor of the residence and to battle the blaze that spread from the exterior to the interior.
All residents at the home were able to safely get out. The blaze caused $80,000 in damage, destroyed one car and left the home uninhabitable, according to authorities.

The home's residents have been relocated. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
