Juvenile Soccer Coach Charged in Sex Abuse Case

He's accused of offering free medical treatment to female soccer players and sexually assaulting two women who came to him for care.

COOK COUNTY, IL – A suburban soccer coach who claimed he was a retired emergency medical technician and offered to treat female players for free has been charged with sexually abusing two of his "patients" multiple times in recent years. Ruben Betancourth, 55, coaches a juvenile club in Streamwood but none of his victims are a part of the juvenile club, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Ryan DeGroot told the Daily Herald.

One of the victims, a 23-year-old woman, was sexually abused by Betancourth at his Streamwood home in December 2017 and again at a sports complex in Elgin last month, DeGroot said. After the Elgin assault, he made the woman β€œpinkie promise that she would not tell anyone," officials said.

The other victim, who is 29 years old, said she was sexually assaulted three time at Betancourth’s home and the sports complex after going to him for treatment of an ankle sprain in late 2016, according to the article.
