Lt. Who Shot Decynchia Clements To Return To Work: Police

A group gathered Wednesday outside the Elgin Police Department to protest the reinstatement of Lt. Christian Jensen.

ELGIN, IL — A group of 16 people gathered outside the Elgin Police Department this past week to protest the city's decision to reinstate Lt. Christian Jensen to administrative duty. The longtime Elgin police officer was cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting of DeCynthia Clements on March 12, 2018, the Daily Herald reports.

The city announced last week Jensen would be returning to work at some point in September, according to the article. Elgin Police Department Chief Ann Lalley provided an update this week on the reasons behind the city's decision for reinstating Jensen in the department's Chief Lalley in the Valley video feature.

The protest on Wednesday was organized by Fox Valley Citizens for Peace & Justice.

The group's representative Mary Shesgreen read from a statement and said the group was deeply disappointed about the decision to reinstate Jensen and that the move could lead to "racial profiling" and distrust and hostility between police and the black community, according to the article.
