Missing Elgin Man Found Dead In Fox River: Coroner

ELGIN, IL — A 41-year-old Elgin man who had been missing for nearly a month was found dead in the Fox River this week, according to the Kane County Coroner's Office.

Victor Marin was formally reported missing by family members on June 28. His body was recovered from the Fox River during the early Thursday, authorities said.

The Kane County Coroner's Office was notified at about 3:20 a.m. Thursday. With assistance from the Elgin Fire Department, Marin's body was recovered from the river and transported to the coroner's office for examination.

A forensic odontologist assisted in positively identifying Marin, officials said.

An autopsy performed Friday determined Marin's preliminary cause of death was drowning. Toxicology samples were collected and have been sent to a national forensic laboratory for further analysis.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of the toxicology testing.

Kane County Coroner Dr. Monica Silva and her staff extended their condolences to Marin's family and friends.
