Man Passed Out in Taco Bell Drive Thru Faces 5th DUI: Police
The 35-year-old Elgin man was arrested early Sunday, police said.
ELGIN, IL — A 35-year-old Elgin man faces his fifth drunken driving charge after he passed out in the Taco Bell parking lot early Sunday, authorities said. When officers from the Elgin Police Department responded at 2:36 a.m. to the Taco Bell, they allegedly found Fredi Hernandez fast asleep in the driver’s seat with a bag of marijuana in the passenger seat, according to the Elgin Police Department report. It took officers a couple minutes of yelling to try a and rouse Hernandez before he woke up.
Police asked Hernandez where he was, and he told them he was on Randall Road and he was ordering food, according to the report. Authorities noted that he was a couple miles away from Randall, and he hadn’t quite made it up to the drive-thru speaker at the Taco Bell on McClean Boulevard to order.
Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Hernandez and took him into custody, according to the report.

Hernandez is charged with aggravated DUI-5th offense, aggravated DUI - license suspended or revoked and operating uninsured motor vehicle.
