Motorcyclist Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash in Elgin
A 72-year-old Elgin man was killed in the crash Friday afternoon.

ELGIN, IL - A 72-year-old Elgin man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon in Elgin. The crash happened at about 2:47 p.m. at the intersection of Summit Street and Shady Oaks Drive. A preliminary investigation revealed the collision occurred when a vehicle, driven by a 52-year-old Glendale Heights man, was traveling south on Shady Oaks Drive and failed to a yield to a motorcycle that was westbound on Summit Street, according to a press release from the Elgin Police Department.
This caused the motorcycle to lose control. The 72-year-old driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to St Alexius Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was uninjured. Several streets in the area of the crash were closed during the investigation for approximately four hours.

The collision was Elgin's first fatal traffic crash of 2017.
