Join us for a free, three-part seminar to help you and your child navigate the often challenging, confusing and sometimes frightening steps in the college application process. Doug Sept and Dan Raffety, experts in the field of college counseling and faculty and administrators at Elgin Academy, will present three seminars that will walk parents and students through the process from beginning to end. Doug and Dan have helped hundreds of students and parents navigate the college process successfully. Each seminar will be held at the Gail Borden Library, 270 N. Grove Avenue in Elgin.
Debunking the Myths of the College Application Process - Tuesday, January 14/6:30-7:30 pm
Doug and Dan will address the common myths of getting into college with a general overview of the process including when the process should begin, how important are grades and standardized test scores, and is it possible to afford college without going into debt, among many other topics.

Choosing a College That Fits - Tuesday, April 14/6:30 - 7:30 pm
Does everyone dream of going to Harvard? Not really. There are over 4,000 college and universities in the United States alone. Doug and Dan will address how you can determine the best fit college for your child. This presentation will provide insight on what to look for and how to narrow down the choices to find just the right fit for them.

The dreaded application and essay! They don't have to be scary. In this seminar, Doug and Dan will shed light on how to complete the college application step by step as well as provide useful tips and techniques for writing an essay that will impress and connect with college admissions representatives.
