Man Charged With Attempted Murder For Shooting at Cops: Police

Two Carpentersville officers shot at a man who first shot at them Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — A 22-year-old Carpentersville faces attempted murder charges following an officer-involved shooting in Carpentersville. Jose Manuel Cervantes, of the 100 block of Golfview Lane, Carpentersville, has also been charged with felony armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a gang member, and four counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Authorities say two Carpentrsville police officers shot a man, who they found brandishing a gun and who first shot at officers, Tuesday afternoon. The man, who was allegedly identified as Cervantes, was taken to the hospital and later released, according to the Daily Herald.

Cervantes fired four shots at the two officers in a residential neighborhood near Berkshire Circle and Bristol Court Witt three shots hitting the officer’s vehicle and one hitting a house. The officers were not injured, and fired back, hitting Cervantes multiple times, police said.

Cervantes’ bail has been set at $850,000.
