Patient Charged With Attempted Murder In Beating Of Nurse

Prosecutors say an Elgin Mental Health Center patient punched a nurse in the face and head, and knocked her over. She is still hospitalized.

ELGIN, IL—An Elgin Mental Health Center patient faces several felony charges after allegedly punching and knocking over a nurse.

On Tuesday, the Kane County State's Attorney charged 18-year-old Travis Turner with one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery.

Prosecutors say Turner attacked a nurse on July 17 and caused "life-threatening injuries to her face, skull and upper body."

The nurse remains in the hospital, according to a news release.

Turner's bail is set at $500,000. His next court appearance is August 11 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
