Roadside Safety Check Scheduled For This Weekend

The roadside safety check will be held this weekend in Elgin.

ELGIN, IL – A Roadside Safety Check will be held this weekend in Elgin. The Illinois State Police announced the safety check will be held the weekend of April 27 and is meant to combine a strong sense of public awareness and enforcement in order to save lives, according to a news release. Officers working the detail will be watching for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license and transporting open alcoholic beverages.

They will also be on the lookout for those driving under the influence, not using a safety belt or child restraint, speeding, driving while distracted or violating other Illinois vehicles codes or laws, according to the news release.

Illinois State Police say alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S., and nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving. RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.
