Roosevelt University's historic season ends in CCAC semifinals

ELGIN , Ill. -- Roosevelt University’s first appearance in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament ended in the semifinals Tuesday with a 7-4 extra-inning loss to Judson at Hoffer Field.

The loss ended a historic season for Roosevelt, which came from behind to win two elimination games in the tournament before falling in the semifinals. Roosevelt finished the season 28-24 and had their best season since the team was revived in 2011.

Judson right fielder Josh Krueger cranked a three-run home run in the bottom of the 12th off Matt Garbacz to send Judson to the championship game against Trinity Christian.

Roosevelt jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings thanks to a pair of unearned runs and a sacrifice fly by Algonquin native Matt Kozlak. The Lakers added one more run in the eighth thanks to Leo Lunatto’s solo home run.

Judson catcher Adam Rojas hit an RBI single in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.

Roosevelt’s Zach Taylor went 3 for 4 with a walk and a run scored, and Matt Marrera and Lunatto had two hits apiece. Starter Matt Donahue went seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and no walks.
