Elgin Academy in partnership with TriCity Family Services will host a presentation "Self-Compassion - Learn How to Help Develop Self-Compassion In You and Your Child" on Tuesday, October 29th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Elgin Academy. It is probably not a coincidence that the Golden Rule does not read "Do unto others as you would do to yourself." Having high self-esteem in today's society seems to be a requirement, and it is obtained through judging and evaluating oneself against others in a way that deems you "above average" or "special." Laura Kowalski, MS, LCPC of TriCity Family Services will discuss forgoing self-esteem for self-compassion which appears to be a more reliable source of support without the negative consequences of self-esteem. Ms. Kowalski will also look at the three elements of self-compassion and how you can contribute to encouraging the development of self-compassion in your child.

The program is free and refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Bonita Goist at bgoist@elginacademy.org. Elgin Academy is located at 350 Park Street, Elgin. The event will be held in the Edwards Hall Learning Center.
