Suspicious Incident At School Ended Up Being 'Honest Mistake'

The incident happened Tuesday at Kenyon Woods Middle School.

SOUTH ELGIN, IL –A suspicious incident that police originally thought could be an attempted abduction ended up being an honest mistake, NBC Chicago reports. According to the TV station report, Lisa Olsem, principal at Kenyon Woods Middle School, wrote in a letter to parents that authorities were called after a man tried to sign a student out of school on Tuesday before he unexpectedly left.

According to NBC:

"He intended to pick up his child at South Elgin High School but inadvertently went to her former school," Olsem's letter read. According to the school, the man asked for a student by first and last name and it "sounded nearly identical to a Kenyon Woods Middle School student."

The man left Kenyon Woods and went next door to South Elgin High School where he successfully picked up his child, according to the media report.
