Taylor YMCA’s Preschool Provides the Cornerstone for Educational
The Taylor Family YMCA Early Learning Center aims to nurture and inspire kids to discover their educational potential.

The Taylor Family YMCA Early Learning Center aims to nurture and inspire kids to discover their educational potential. The ultimate goal for the YMCA is to have students enter the U-46 Kindergarten program socially and academically prepared to succeed. The YMCA’s Early Learning Center (Preschool) offers a full-day program for children ages 3,4 & 5 with the school day running M – F from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm to accommodate working parents, and ½ day options for those that need/want a shorter day. Two day and three day options are also available.
The Preschool on Van Street is one half mile away from the Taylor Family YMCA on McLean Boulevard, and can accommodate up to 60 3 & 4 year olds, and employs 6 staff members, including bi-lingual teacher to work with Hispanic families in the community. According to Adia Walker, Preschool Director for the YMCA’s Early Learning Center: “Less than 2,000 of the 6,000 children ages 3 & 4 within the U-46 boundaries are being served by public or private preschool classes, so the sooner we can educate and get children learning and developing reading skills, the better off they will be at the higher grade levels.”
Registration is currently open for the 2019-20 school year, and space is still available. The YMA Early Learning Center work with DHS and DCFS to accommodate those children eligible to Child Care Assistance Program, provided by the State of Illinois. The 2019 school year begins August 19th and runs through May 2020.
