Phys Ed Teacher's Funeral To Be Held In School's Gym

KANE COUNTY, IL -- A visitation and funeral service for a physical education teacher who died after she sustained head injuries after falling last week at Hampshire Middle School will be held this weekend in the school's gymnasium. Barbara Taylor, 57, of Hampshire, died from cranio-cerebral injuries following the incident that occurred on the morning of Sept. 21, according to preliminary investigation results from the Kane County Coroner's Office. The longtime educator spent the past 35 years as a teacher, including the last 11 years as a phys ed teacher at Hampshire Middle School.

A funeral service for Taylor will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Hampshire Middle School gymnasium, 560 State Street in Hampshire. A visitation will be held in the gym from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. A burial will be held in the Hampshire Center Cemetery.

Taylor graduated from Hampshrie High School in 1979 and went on to receive her teaching degree from Northern Illinois University, according to her obituary. She worked for 35 years as a teacher, which included the past 21 years with District 300.

Besides working as a physical education teacher at Hampshire Middle School, she was also the girls volleyball coach and 7th grade girls basketball coach at the school. Prior to coming to Hampshire Middle School, she worked at Eastview Elementary School in Algonquin and Golfview Elementary School in Carpentersville as a physical education teacher.

She also spent time as a physical education teacher for St. Charles Borromeo School and as the director of the Hampshire Park District, according to her obituary.

The cause of Taylor's death is under investigation by the Kane County Coroner's Office and the Hampshire Police Department.
