Teen Killed In Elgin Crash Was Larkin High Student

ELGIN, IL – A teen killed in a single-vehicle crash in Elgin was a Larkin High School student, police said. The collision occurred in the 1000 block of South Street at about 10:46 a.m. on Monday, police said. An Elgin police spokeswoman told the Daily Herald the driver killed in the crash was a Larkin High School student but also said she could not yet release the student's identity.

"My heart is breaking," Elgin Area School District U-46 CEO Tony Sanders told the Daily Herald. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Counselors were on hand this afternoon and will continue to be while students and staff need support. When I was at the hospital we also had a social worker come to meet with family and close friends."

A preliminary investigation into the collision shows a vehicle was heading east on South Street at Alfred Avenue when the driver lost control and struck a tree, according to a Facebook post from the Elgin Police Department.

The 17-year-old driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to Presence St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash. The teen's identity is being withheld pending notification to relatives, police said.
