Husband Claims 'Nagging' Lead Him to Kill Wife: Prosecutors
Carlo Madonia, 58, is being held on a $3 million bail for the murder of his wife, Nancy Madonia.

BARTLETT, IL — A 58-year-old Bartlett man accused of strangling his wife to death in their home on Wednesday is being held on $3 million bail, according to the Daily Herald. The reason behind the murder, prosecutors said, centered on Carlo Madonia becoming enraged by his wife's nagging. On Wednesday morning, an argument between the couple over Carlo Madonia, who recently had a heart attack, returning to work too soon, turned violent, according to prosecutors.
Authorities said Carlo Madonia strangled his wife of more than 30 years, Nancy Madonia, to death. The couple's son found his mother in the upstairs master bathroom and called 911, the Daily Herald reports.
Authorities responded to the home at in the 200 block of South Lido Trail and found the 58-year-old woman's body upstairs, DuPage County State's Attorney's Office Robert Berlin said in a news release. Nancy Madonia was pronounced dead at the scene. DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgenson said "suspicious circumstances were apparent and additional agencies were called in for assistance."

Carlo's children said their father has "not been himself" since having a heart attack around Easter, according to the Elgin Courier-News. After strangling his wife, officials said Carlo told police he tried to hang himself with a belt but was not able to go through with it.
“Domestic violence continues to be a very serious problem,” Berlin said Friday. “According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly twenty people per minute are physically abused by a spouse or intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million victims of domestic violence every year. I extend my sincerest condolences to Nancy’s family and friends as they try to come to terms with this senseless loss of life."
Carlo Madonia is next expected in court on June 12.
