Woman, 94, Downsizes Anti-Trump Sign To Meet City Code
Myra Becker's sign in her front yard in Elgin may be smaller. But she says the message, and not the size, is what really matters.
ELGIN, IL – A 94-year-old Elgin woman who uses a walker to get around and can't attend marches or protests said she wanted to do something to express her disdain for President Donald Trump. So, she put up a sign, placing a 3-feet by 3-feet 8-inch sign that read, "Impeach President Trump NOW!" in her front yard in Elgin this past February, the Daily Herald reports.
Last week, the sign was downsized after the city received an anonymous inquiry in May regarding its size and whether it complied with the city's code, Molly Center, an Elgin spokeswoman, told the Associated Press. The sign, which measured a total of 11 square feet, was much larger than the 3 square feet allowed by city ordinance, according to media reports.
Myra Becker did not know her sign violated he city's code until city officials requested she get a smaller sign. Initially, she thought about fighting their request. But instead decided to go along with their wishes, reasoning that the message, and not the smaller sign size, was what really mattered, according to the Daily Herald.

As for Becker, who calls Trump a "disaster" and is critical of his domestic, foreign and trade policies, the decision to take a stand was simple, according to the Associated Press.
"I'm on a walker and there are all the things I can't do, but I can put a sign," she said.
