11U Cougars Softball Wins in 12U Palatine Tournament
After a rocky start the Cougars fought hard, played sharp, and won the blue bracket of the 2015 Palatine Stingrays Summer Slam tournament.
Over the weekend of July 10 – 12, 2015 the 11U Cougars Fastpitch squad competed and succeeded at the Palatine 12U Summer Slam Tournament. The tournament started for the Cougars on a sour note, with a defeat at the hands and bats of the Lake Zurich Lightning. Bouncing back the next day the Cougars defeated the Vernon Hills Stingers 7 – 2 and tied the Athletic Barn Storm at 7 to complete pool play. Bracket play opened for the Cougars against the Elmwood Park Tigers on Saturday, July 11th. Cougar pitchers combined for a no-hit, 10 – 1 victory. Quality Cougar Softball (QCS) continued on Sunday, July 12th. The 11U Cougars defeated the 12U Grayslake Pride 2 – 0 in the semi-finals and went on to defeat the 12U Warren Township Wave 5 -3 in the finals of the Palatine Summer Slam blue bracket.
The 2015 Cougars are, in alphabetical order, Mary Barshop, Maddie Baxa, Lindsey Bingham, Gabriela Gonzalez, Mary Grant, Moira Irwin, Kara Jensen, Molly Loch, Madeline Modica, Isabella Prosser, Rena Sotos, and Erica Torres. They are managed by Marty Jensen, who is assisted by Head Coach Ed Grant, Jim Bingham, and Chuck Modica.
