14 Dealership Cars Burglarized, All Unlocked: Police

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police and other agencies repeatedly ask the public to lock their car doors to prevent break-ins. That apparently did not happen at a local car dealership.

About 2:30 a.m. Friday, local police said they arrested Jermaine Thompson Jr., 20, and Dane Toennessen, 21, both of Glen Ellyn, on burglary charges. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.

The men are accused of breaking into 14 unlocked cars inside the closed lot at Napleton's Kia of Elmhurst, 727 W. Grand Ave.

Domestic battery

• A 40-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at his home on two counts of domestic battery. Police said the man slapped and pushed someone to the ground. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Drinking and listening to music

• A 28-year-old Bellwood man, a 49-year-old Melrose Park man and a 29-year-old Chicago man were cited about 10:30 p.m. Friday on a charge of having alcohol in public. An officer heard music from behind Immaculate Conception Prep, 217 S. Cottage Hill. The three men were in the parking lot drinking, police said. They were released.

Public drinking

• A 55-year-old Bensenville man was cited about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of South York Street on a charge of having open alcohol in public. A few hours later, he was charged with attempted criminal trespass to land at Jewel, 944 S. York St., where he had been given a no-trespass notice before. He was arrested on a trespassing charge again about 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the same Jewel store. He was also charged with violation of a pretrial agreement. He was released after each arrest.

Damaged car at high school

• A car was damaged while it was parked between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday near the fieldhouse at York High School, 355 St. Charles Road. The owner saw a dark substance on the front hood, a dusty footprint on the front driver's side fender and scratches that appeared to be from a key.

Sleeping in public place

• A 41-year-old homeless man was cited about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on a loitering charge. Police said they found him sleeping in a stairwell at the city's parking garage at 145 N. Addison Ave. He was released.

Ammunition

• A 31-year-old Joliet man was arrested about 3 a.m. Saturday at Roosevelt Road and York Street on charges of possession of ammunition without a valid firearm owner's identification card, driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured car and improper lane usage. Police said the ammunition was found under the front passenger seat. He was released.

DUI

• A 38-year-old Oswego woman was arrested about 4 a.m. Saturday at Lake Street and Emroy Avenue on charges of DUI, marijuana possession by a driver and improper standing of her car on the roadway. She was taken to the police station and then released.
• A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly before midnight Saturday at Addison Avenue and Schiller Street on charges of DUI and transportation of open alcohol by a driver. He was taken to the police station and then released.
• A 50-year-old Cicero man was arrested shortly before midnight Saturday at Interstate 290 and North Avenue on charges of DUI, transportation of open alcohol by a driver, disobeying a traffic control signal and improper turn at an intersection. He was taken to the police station and then released.
