Since March 24, 181 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital after treatment for confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.

While Elmhurst has a hospital in its boundaries, that would not explain the number of cases in town. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Elmhurst has 3 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 1.4 in Western Springs, 2.9 in La Grange Park, 3 in Clarendon Hills, 3.6 in Darien, 6 in Burr Ridge, 6.5 in La Grange and 7.2 in Hinsdale.

The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 14.8 cases per thousand people.

Naperville, DuPage County's largest municipality, had topped the county's charts for the number of coronavirus cases. But Naperville, with 233 cases, has been passed up by Addison (318), Bensenville (252), Glendale Heights (240) and West Chicago (237).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 61,499. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 2,618 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.

Nationally, nearly 1.2 million people have caught the virus, and 68,286 people have died from it.
