4 Arrested In Elmhurst Felony Retail Thefts

The arrests occurred within 1½ hours at two local stores, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police arrested four Chicago men within the space of 1½ hours Friday night at two stores, the city said Monday.

The suspects were charged with felony retail theft and burglary, police said.

About 7:30 p.m., an Elmhurst officer spotted a car that returned to Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, after being involved in a theft at the store 10 days earlier, police said.

Officers arrested Ronald Brito-Padilla, 24, and Erick Quevedo-Nino, 34. They were accused of stealing $1,300 worth of fragrance boxes by concealing them under their clothes.

About 9 p.m., two men were arrested after stealing $1,200 worth of liquor from Jewel, 944 S. York St., police said. They were identified as Michael B. Howard, 43, and Myron Edwards, 31. In addition to burglary and theft, Edwards also was charged with obstruction of identification and possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 8 p.m., an officer stopped a car at Route 83 and Interstate 290. The driver, 56-year-old Robert E. Martin of Chicago, was identified as the suspect who stole two pairs of shoes from Shoe Carnival, 195 S. Route 83, on Dec. 27, authorities said.

During Friday's stop, Martin was charged with felony retail theft, driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured car and improper lighting.

The five suspects were taken to the DuPage County Jail.
