41 Virus Deaths So Far At Elmhurst Hospital
More than 200 patients, including 30-year-old last week, have been discharged after virus treatment.

ELMHURST, IL — In the last week, four more patients at Elmhurst Hospital died as the result of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. That brings the total to 41, the hospital says.
In the last few weeks, the number of coronavirus patients at Elmhurst Hospital has hovered around 60. It was 63 on Monday, up by five from a week ago.
Since March 24, 228 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital after treatment for confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Last week, the hospital released Jonathan Davila, a 30-year-old Addison resident, after 44 days as a coronavirus patient. Media were invited as he left, with Davila, his doctor and family speaking with reporters.

According to the DuPage County Health Department, Elmhurst had 162 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of Sunday. This is up from 142 a week earlier, a 14 percent increase. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.

While Elmhurst has a hospital in its boundaries, that would not explain the number of cases in town. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state Department of Public Health.
Elmhurst has 3.5 coronavirus cases per thousand residents. That compares to 1.8 in Western Springs, 3.3 in Clarendon Hills, 3.6 in La Grange Park, 3.8 in Darien, 5 in DuPage County, 7.9 in La Grange and 9.2 in Hinsdale.
Some suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 16.8 cases per thousand people.
In DuPage County, Addison is leading the pack with 412 coronavirus cases as of Sunday, or 11.3 cases per thousand. West Chicago follows with 336 cases, or 12.4 per thousand.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 77,741, up 26 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 3,406 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
Nationally, nearly 1.4 million people have caught the virus, and 80,574 people have died from it.
