$42K Stolen From Bensenville Restaurant In 2024 Burglary: Police

BENSENVILLE, IL – A total of $42,000 in cash was stolen from an ATM at a Bensenville restaurant during a 2024 burglary, police said.

For more than two years, Patch has submitted regular requests for the police report. But Bensenville police denied them, citing an ongoing investigation.

Last week, the department released it.

About 7 a.m. May 9, 2024, the owner of Hide Away Cafe, 207 Main St., found a pantry wall had been broken through to the gambling room, according to the report. An ATM had been emptied, but the cash registers were untouched.

The security system had not been activated after the bartenders left at 2 a.m., police said. The owner believed the suspects had entered through an unlocked door, but he was unsure which one, the report said.

Video surveillance showed two people in sweaters with hoods breaking in, police said.

For a time, police believed the burglary was connected to one on June 28, 2024, at Enchanted Castle, a restaurant and entertainment venue in Lombard. In that case, the suspects stole $13,000 in cash from a gambling redemption terminal.

Because the leads have been exhausted, Bensenville police have closed the case, according to the report.
