83 More Virus Cases in Elmhurst: County

The city sees one more coronavirus death in the last week.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw an increase in its rate of new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city experienced 83 new cases in the last week, or a 2.1 percent hike. The increase was 1.4 percent the week before. The case total since the pandemic's beginning is 4,002.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by one in the last week, to 61. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 2.1 percent was higher than DuPage County's hike of 1.8 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 85.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 72.8 in Darien, 76.7 in La Grange Park, 80.2 in Western Springs, 82.9 in DuPage County, 83.7 in Hinsdale, 90.8 in Clarendon Hills, 91.5 in suburban Cook County, 95.9 in Burr Ridge and 105.1 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,254,185, up 1.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,361 state residents.

Nationally, 30.4 million people have caught the virus, up 1.7 percent from the week before. A total of 552,829 people have died from the virus in the United States.
