ELMHURST, IL – Four Elmhurst aldermen are requesting the city add lighting to the medians on North York Street.

The city has completed its North York improvement project, which included landscaped medians.

In a memo this week, the four aldermen – Ward 3's Michael Bram and Chris Jensen and Ward 2's Karen Sienko and Jacob Hill – said the project did not include electricity for five landscaped medians.

"Since the construction of the landscape medians, there have been numerous accidents," the aldermen said. "There has been some feedback from the public that these landscape medians are difficult to see at night."

An interim solution, they said, involved reflective tape on the medians to allow for greater visibility at night.

The permanent solution of lighting will not only help with North York's visibility and beautification, but assist in attracting new businesses and increasing overall property values, the aldermen said.

On Monday, the City Council is set to vote on sending the issue to one of its committees.

York Street is the dividing line between Wards 2 and 3.
