The Oak Brook Police Department investigated the crash.

In the early evening of Jan. 26, the officer was headed west on 22nd Street when he stopped at the light at Butterfield Road, according to the report.

He then proceeded into the intersection on a red light and collided with another car.

The other driver, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital, had a green arrow when he took a left turn and the squad car hit him, according to the report.

A tow truck removed the other driver's car because of the damage.

No one was issued a citation, according to the report.

Asked about this, Village Manager Greg Summers said the local police do not automatically issue citations for traffic collisions.

He said the officer was found to be at fault.

"Departmental review of the case and actions did result in the officer taking a suspension as a result of his actions, which resulted in the accident," Summers said in an email.
