ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving an unwanted sleeper, a neighbor dispute, threatening calls, stolen catalytic converters, an attempted burglary, a shattered business window and DUIs. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Unwanted sleeper
A resident in the 900 block of South Hawthorne Avenue told police Friday morning that someone slept in his detached garage and stole clothing. An investigation is pending.
During a neighbor dispute, a 32-year-old Elmhurst man damaged a neighbor's wreath July 3 at the Elmhurst 255 Downtown Apartments, 255 N. Addison Ave. He was cited on a property damage charge Thursday.
Threatening calls
A resident in the 600 block of North Howard Avenue told police Thursday he received numerous threatening calls and voicemails. An investigation is pending.
Stolen converters
A catalytic converter was stolen about 5 a.m. Thursday from a Ford F-350 pickup truck at Vertical Chimney Care, 960 N. Industrial Drive. An investigation is pending. One was also removed from an Isuzu NPR truck around the same time at Fotis and Son Imports, 758 N. Industrial Drive.
Shattered business window
Someone threw a rock and shattered a window about 8:30 a.m. Friday at Geico, 170 N. York St.
Attempted burglary
A resident in the 100 block of South Chandler Avenue captured video of a person attempting to enter the resident's car about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Police found no other signs of burglaries in the neighborhood.
DUI
A 22-year-old Oakbrook Terrace man was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Road and Route 83 on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, failure to report an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the police station and then released.
A 37-year-old Chicago woman was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Friday at Robert Palmer Drive and York Street on charges of DUI, driving with a suspended license, disobeying a flashing red light and driving an uninsured car. She was taken to the police station and then released.
A 47-year-old Oak Park man was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North York Street on charges of DUI and possession of open alcohol by a driver. Police said the man was found asleep behind the wheel. He was taken to the police station and then released.
A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday at York Street and Grand Avenue on charges of attempted aggravated DUI, DUI, driving an uninsured car, failing to signal when required and improperly turning at an intersection. He was taken to the police station and then released.
A 32-year-old Melrose Park man was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at North and Villa avenues on charges of DUI and improper lane usage. She was taken to the police station and then released.
