📰 News we're reading

• York Grad Speaker Unable To Finish Speech (patch.com) — Elmhurst families saw a scary moment at York High School’s commencement when student speaker and graduate Ricardo Morales fainted mid-speech, prompting a brief pause in the ceremony. Days later, Elmhurst District 205 leaders invited him to a school board meeting, where he donned his cap and gown to receive his diploma and be recognized for his highly regarded “Student Reflection” address.

• Ex-Elmhurst Teacher Calls Officials 'Bobbleheads' (patch.com) — An outspoken retired teacher and longtime Elmhurst resident blasted District 205 board members as “bobbleheads” while criticizing the bland look of Sandburg and Bryan middle schools compared with Churchville’s more natural setting. He urged officials to save Churchville’s oak grove from encroaching mulberry trees, highlighting a very local debate over how Elmhurst schools care for their campuses.

• Men Admit To Fake Elmhurst Robbery; Supposed Loot Found In Safe: Police (patch.com) — Elmhurst police say two men admitted fabricating a high-value jewelry robbery they originally reported near Grand Avenue and Commerce Court, leading officers to recover the items in a home safe. Investigators cited phone records and inconsistent stories before a grand jury indicted both on felony disorderly conduct charges for allegedly filing a false crime report.
