ELMHURST, IL – A photo circulating at York High School prompted officials to launch an investigation into a student who appeared to have a weapon earlier this month.
During the school day May 11, students reported seeing a photo that seemed to show a student in a car holding a gun, according to a statement from Elmhurst School District 205.
In response, administrators and the school's resource officer, who works for the local police department, quickly investigated the situation, the district said. Police said the student was with an airsoft rifle in the school's parking lot.
"We appreciate those who came forward to report their concerns to school administrators so that the situation could be addressed immediately," the district said. "We also want to remind our community of the importance of 'See Something, Say Something.'"
The investigation led to the police department citing a 19-year-old male student on a disorderly conduct charge, authorities said.
The day of the incident, the district sent the statement about it to York families. Patch obtained the document through a public records request.
