ELMHURST, IL – Federal authorities on Friday confirmed that an explosion Thursday on Interstate 290 killed one person, ABC 7 reported.
The federal statement came from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m. Thursday near Mannheim Road. Police closed the expressway for hours as a bomb squad investigated. A car's windows were seen blown out.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office earlier confirmed a man died in the incident.
"No evidence was found to indicate this was connected to any other event or that any other individuals were involved," federal authorities were quoted as saying in the statement.
