Armed Man In Elmhurst Passed Out Behind Wheel: Cops

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police said they arrested a man over the weekend who was passed out in his car with a gun in plain view.

D Ante Hence, a 36-year-old convicted felon from Joliet, was charged with felonies in the incident, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, Elmhurst officers pulled behind a car near North Avenue and Route 83 that was stopped in a lane of traffic, according to a news release.

Officers found the driver, later identified as Hence, slumped behind the wheel, police said. They also said they saw a gun in plain view on the passenger seat, open alcohol and marijuana in the center console.

Police said officers woke Hence and secured the weapon, identified as a fully loaded SCCY CPX-2 9 mm with a full 14-round magazine and one bullet in the chamber. His blood-alcohol content was reported at .19.

"As a convicted felon, Mr. Hence has forfeited his right to possess a firearm, and the allegations that he was behind the wheel of his car after he had been drinking while armed with a loaded weapon will not be tolerated in DuPage County," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release.

Hence was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (no firearm owner's identification), misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis by driver and multiple petty traffic offenses, including transportation of open alcohol by driver and stopping, parking or standing on a roadway.

A DuPage County judge denied pretrial release for Hence.
