ELMHURST, IL – An Airbnb in an Elmhurst neighborhood contains eight teens who are salespeople on Segways, and they are disturbing the neighborhood, a resident said Monday.
Rhonda Dhiab, who lives in the 400 block of West Avery Street, spoke to the City Council about her concern.
She said the neighboring Airbnb is the site of loud parties and garbage. She said they are selling windows, pest control and other services door to door.
"I have not heard their spiel because I won't open my door to them," Dhiab said. "They have annoyed all my neighbors."
Dhiab told aldermen that a dog was left at the house all day long without food and water.
She has noticed license plates at the house from other states.
Door-to-door salespeople often come from around the country. Last week, local police cited a 19-year-old Boca Raton, Florida, man for soliciting without a license. It is unknown whether the man was connected to the house near Dhiab.
Dhiab spoke up about the Airbnb during a May 2025 council meeting. She was among residents who asked for the city to enact regulations for short-term rentals.
The council did so at the meeting in which she spoke.
At Monday's meeting, aldermen did not respond to Dhiab's public comments, following their meeting policy.
