ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving illegal gambling machines, domestic battery, a fire, trespassing, drinking in public and car burglaries. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Illegal gambling machines
The owner of Power Market convenience store, 572 W. Lake St., was cited about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of having two illegal gambling devices on the property. The owner is a 33-year-old Oak Brook man.
A 43-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of Fellows Court was arrested about 9 p.m. Tuesday at his home on charges of domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and resisting arrest. Police said the man pushed another person and then took the person's phone to prevent a 911 call. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Fire
Firefighters responded to a fire about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Oaklawn Street. The resident reported smoke and flames in the master bathroom. The fire was put out.
Obstructing officer
A 26-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 500 block of West Third Street was arrested Monday on a warrant and taken to the DuPage County Jail. She was charged with obstructing an officer in February in Elmhurst. She turned herself in at the Elmhurst police station.
Trespassing
A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on a criminal trespassing charge. Police said he was on the top level of the city's parking deck at 145 N. Addison Ave., where the public is forbidden. The man was released.
A 33-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Interstate 290 and York Street on a charge of criminal trespass to a vehicle. Police said he was driving a car that was stolen in Chicago. He was released.
Drinking in public
A 52-year-old Tulsa, Oklahoma, man was asleep in a car about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of a house in the 400 block of North Berteau Avenue. The man admitted to drinking. Alcohol was found in the man's broken-down car. He was cited on a charge of transporting open alcohol by a driver.
Car burglaries
About 2 a.m. Tuesday, someone entered a resident's work and personal vehicles in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue. A Glock 17 round pistol magazine and two Magpull 30-round rifle magazines.
About 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a resident in the 300 block of North Oak Street saw a suspicious bicyclist with a flashlight looking into cars. The resident witnessed the person enter his neighbor's unlocked Toyota Tundra in a driveway. The owner checked the car and found nothing missing.
Someone stole cash, a purse and a wallet from a car in the 200 block of North York Street. The burglary was reported Wednesday.
A resident in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue told police that her doorbell camera showed a person trying to enter her locked car about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. The person was unable to enter the car.
Someone entered an unlocked car about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue. Nothing was reported missing.
Someone rummaged through a parked car overnight Tuesday in the 400 block of West Second Street. Nothing was reported missing.
