ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst group wants to expand its monthly event, which includes alcohol, to a neighboring city parking lot.

The Knights of Columbus, which has rebranded itself as the Renaissance Room for event purposes, has held the monthly Prairie Path Market since April.

The market features local artisans, vintage sellers, bakers and creators, according to the event's Facebook page.

In a letter last month to the city, Nancy Hogan, the group's event coordinator and bar manager, said the turnout has been good so far.

She asked to extend a small part of the event to the city parking lot behind the Knights building, which is at 537 York St.

"Our goal is to create a welcoming community gathering space where neighbors can come together to shop local artisans, socialize and enjoy food from approximately four to five local restaurants/food vendors," Hogan said.

Alcohol could be purchased inside, with patrons being allowed to take their drinks to a fenced-in area outside, she said.

She said the group would hire a security guard to check IDs and make sure alcohol stays inside the fenced-in area.

"We believe this event positively contributes to the community by promoting local commerce, increasing foot traffic for nearby businesses and fostering a vibrant neighborhood atmosphere," Hogan said.

The Prairie Path Market is planned for 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on one Thursday a month through October, according to a city memo.

The City Council's public safety committee is set to look at the request during its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
