ELMHURST, IL – Earlier this year, Elmhurst issued a permit for LA Fitness to convert its facility at 620 N. York St. to a more upscale gym.
According to city documents, the project was estimated to cost nearly $3 million. The plan was to convert LA Fitness to Club Studio Fitness, the records said. Their parent company is Fitness International.
However, employees answering the local LA Fitness' phone Monday indicated the conversion was no longer the plan.
Club Studio is considered a "premium subsidiary," with more costly memberships. A Club Studio membership gets someone unlimited access to all LA Fitness locations. But it doesn't work the other way around.
According to Club Studio's website, Illinois has no locations But three are "coming soon." They are in suburban Wilmette and the Lakeview East and Streeterville neighborhoods in Chicago.
Patch left a message with LA Fitness' public relations department Monday.
