Elmhurst Bank Robbery Suspect Sentenced To 14 Years

ELMHURST, IL – A Franklin Park man was sentenced last week in connection with six suburban Chicago bank robberies, including two in Elmhurst.

German Campos Jr., 26, committed the violent robberies over 10 months in 2023 and 2024, authorities said. He is accused of brandishing a gun at bank tellers and customers during five of them.

Last Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin sentenced Campos to 14 years in prison.

The Elmhurst armed robberies took place on Dec. 16, 2023, and June 13, 2024, at U.S. Bank, 536 S. York St., police said. The other holdups were in Schaumburg, Park Ridge and Niles. All but one were at U.S. Bank branches; the one in Park Ridge was at BMO Bank.

Campos was arrested Sept. 17, 2024, and has remained behind bars since then, authorities said. He pleaded guilty in March to federal bank robbery and gun charges.

"The only reason why the defendant stopped his violent robbery spree was because he was finally caught after 10 months of terrorizing bank employees and customers," Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Stern said in court records.
