North Elmhurst Path Would Cost $1.3M, Go Through Industrial Area: City

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is proposing to build a nearly three-fourths-mile paved path in the city's northwest corner.

The 10-foot-wide path would be on the side of Church Road from Fishcher Farm Road to Grand Avenue.

Many Elmhurst residents may not be familiar with this section of town, which is industrial.

The project is estimated to cost $1.3 million.

On Monday, a City Council committee is expected to vote on sending an application to the state for money.

If the state accepts the request, it would cover up to 80 percent of the cost.

In a memo this week, the city said the path is part of Elmhurst's bicycle and pedestrian plan.

The Church Road path would connect gaps in pedestrian and bicyclist access within the city, provide connections to Berens Park and link to neighboring Bensenville, according to the memo.

The city said the engineering would take place in 2027 and 2028.

For years, Elmhurst has planned a pedestrian path across Route 83 north of North Avenue. One of the aims is to connect people to Berens Park.
