These Elmhurst Streets To Be Repaved Next Year

ELMHURST, IL – Over the next five years, Elmhurst plans to repave 7.5 miles of streets annually, a top official said Monday.

Elmhurst's street network is about 150 miles. With 7.5 miles a year, the city will be on a 20-year replacement cycle, said Kent Johnson, the city's interim manager.

At Monday's City Council meeting, he presented plans for the next five years. The street program's annual cost will range from $7.1 million to $8.6 million, he said.

Here are major street projects planned for next year:

• Cayuga Avenue, three blocks from York Street to Poplar Avenue ($1.9 million): The work will involve installing a new concrete curb, replacing manhole frames and improving drainage.
• Butterfield Road and York Street intersection improvements ($1.7 million): The project consists of traffic signal modernization, patching failed pavement, spot curb and gutter replacement, Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades, resurfaced road, and modified turn lanes for the east and west approaches.
• Northwest Elmhurst streets ($1.1 million): Patch has asked the city for more information about the project.
