Man Scammed Elmhurst Restaurants Out Of Customers' Credit Cards: Police

A fourth eatery called 911, prompting a brief police chase before the suspect was arrested, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – A man stole credit cards through a scam Wednesday at downtown Elmhurst restaurants, but was caught after a brief police pursuit, authorities said.

During the lunch hour, Anron E. Wrighton, 28, of Bronx, New York, visited three restaurants, told employees he left his credit card there and then took other customers' cards that were at registers, police said in a news release.

A fourth restaurant called 911 when Wrighton tried the scam again, police said. After a chase across Palmer Drive, officers apprehended him.

Wrighton was charged with three counts of burglary, attempted theft and resisting a police officer. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Elmhurst police reminded businesses to be on the lookout for financial crimes like credit card theft and quick-change currency scams.
