Man In Elmhurst Seeks Sex From Teen: Prosecutors

ELMHURST, IL — A man was arrested after he solicited sex from a 17-year-old girl over the weekend at an Elmhurst gas station, police said.

Janeiro Green, 70, of Deerfield, was charged with felony solicitation of a sexual act of a minor, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the gas station at Delta Sonic Car Wash, 600 W. North Ave., police said.

The girl told police that she was pumping gas when Green approached her, used vulgar language, said he wanted to have sex with her, told her he could pay her and continued the conversation after she tried several times to end it, prosecutors said.

The girl disengaged by telling Green she had to go to work, with Green then giving her his name, phone number and email address, police said.

While officers were speaking with the girl, they saw a commotion involving Green at a store across the street, waved him over and later took him into custody without any problems, police said.

Because the charge is non-detainable under the state's Safe-T Act, Green was released from custody with conditions, including no contact with the victim or anyone under age 18, prosecutors said. DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said the case shows why lawmakers should revisit the law.

Elmhurst Police Chief Michael McLean praised the teen for reporting the case.

"I commend the courage shown by this minor and her mother in promptly reporting this disturbing incident to the Elmhurst Police Department," McLean said in a statement. "Every minor in our community deserves to feel safe in public spaces and should never be subjected to inappropriate solicitations from adults."
