Co-Warehousing Hub Set For Elmhurst, Saltbox's 1st In Midwest

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is set to become home to Saltbox's first Midwestern location this fall, bringing a 114-suite co-warehousing facility to 934 N. Church Road.

The company said the site will offer flexible warehouse and office space, loading docks and an on-site operations team for product-based businesses that have outgrown working from home but are not ready for a traditional warehouse.

Saltbox operates 13 locations across the United States and said its co-warehousing model combines private warehouse and office suites with shared infrastructure for receiving inventory, preparing orders and shipping products.

Members will have month-to-month access to loading docks, mail and package receiving, daily carrier pickups, equipment, conference rooms, a content studio, high-speed Wi-Fi, printing, in-suite power, around-the-clock security and reserved parking. The company also said the building will include kitchen, workspace and community areas.

"Chicago has been one of the markets our members have requested most," Olivia Mariani, Saltbox's vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "Product-based businesses are increasingly operating across multiple regions to get inventory closer to their customers, reduce shipping costs, and build more resilient operations."

The company said Elmhurst was selected so Chicagoland founders and their teams could operate closer to home instead of driving to industrial corridors farther away

Suites at the Elmhurst facility will range from 88 to 1,809 square feet, according to the company. Saltbox said the smaller suites can accommodate about four pallets and one or two people, while larger suites can hold as many as 125 pallets and support a full team handling fulfillment in one place.

Conference rooms will also reflect local history with names including Salt Creek and Cottage Hill, the community's original name from 1845 to 1869.
