VILLA PARK, IL – A Villa Park man is accused of selling methamphetamine to an undercover Elmhurst police officer three times.
Peter Thomas, 35, of Villa Park, faces felony charges, police said.
Elmhurst police, working with Chicago police, identified Thomas as an alleged source of meth sales in DuPage County during an investigation into drug dealers, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors alleged an undercover officer contacted Thomas on Aug. 31 and arranged to buy an eight-ball of methamphetamine the next day.
The sale occurred at a business in the 100 block of West First Street in downtown Elmhurst, where the officer bought 4.3 grams of meth for $40, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also alleged the undercover officer made two more purchases from Thomas, one for 3.3 grams on Sept. 30 and another for 7.3 grams on Wednesday, both of which occurred at Thomas' home.
After Wednesday's alleged sale, Thomas went to the business on West First Street in Elmhurst, where officers arrested him after he got out of his car, police said. Prosecutors alleged officers found a baggie containing 29.5 grams of meth in his pants pocket.
"Drug dealers care nothing for their victims, society or the rule of law," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "They profit on the suffering and heartbreak of others and care only about lining their pockets at society's expense."
Thomas was charged with three counts of felony delivery of meth, one count of felony possession with intent to deliver meth, one count of misdemeanor resisting a police officer and one count of misdemeanor unlawful marijuana possession by a driver.
DuPage County Court denied prosecutors' request to keep Thomas in jail until his trial.
He was released with conditions that he not possess or consume alcohol, marijuana or any controlled substances other than medically prescribed, and that he submit to testing, prosecutors said.
