Back Alley Burger is well on its way to opening a new restaurant at St. Charles Road and Route 83, in the old Kentucky Fried Chicken location.

The company opened another location in La Grange, at 13 S. La Grange Road, about a year ago, and business is doing well, according to an article in the Western Springs Doings.

The sign is up at 609 W. St. Charles Road, and the city of Elmhurst awarded the business a liquor license to serve beer and wine on Dec. 5.

Owners Chris and Mary Spagnola of Western Springs are planning for a February opening.

According to the company web site, the menu will include gourmet burgers made from grass-fed beef, turkey and veggie burgers, nitrate-free all-beef hot dogs, hand-dipped shakes and malts, chili and homemade pies. Diners can build their own burger, too, by choosing the type and size of burger, the bun, and toppings, which include atypical items such as apples, fried egg, pastrami and avocado.

describes the decor of that location as having lots of stainless steel and wood, and the Elmhurst location will have that same industrial look.

But the food is the key to the company's success, fresh food, prepared to order with quality ingredients, Spagnola says.
